Breathing is one of the most unknown powerful drugs against anxiety.
As Doctor Andrew Weil rightly points out, it is one of the only thing you can do completely consciously or unconsciously, which is why when you focus on it, it gives a signal to your nervous system that creates relaxation. When we get caught up in our daily live, issues and worries we can sometimes forget to breathe deeply enough as we do it subconsciously. That’s when a lot of issues can arise from that such as chronic pain. Headaches, stomach pain and the list go on and on. We need adequate levels of oxygen to thrive. The more you practice conscious breathing, the more beneficial and automatic relaxation response from your body will become.
How to breathe (this is not meant to be a joke, we have literally forgotten how to properly breathe): Focus on the sole of your feet, on your stomach, lungs and the top of your head as you breathe. Starting from your feet all the way up. Breathe, as if you were trying to grow horizontally, take space. Expanding your belly. Imagine white light going all the way up. How to ground yourself : Imagine your have roots growing down your feet that are growing down. Feel the air around you, the temperature, let sounds come to you. Check out Eckhart Tolle grounding meditation
